Swedish Storage Is A Wonderful Thing

gear_storage

With winter well on its way and getting out invariably even more infrequent, I decided I’d use the time wisely to sort out my gear. Living in a 1901 Victorian terraced house means that space is a forgotten luxury and so I’ve been using the loft conversion to house my ever growing mounds of kit. The Scotland trip took its toll on the poor old loft with most of the free floor space covered in bits of gear - laid out in preparation. I’ve never had anywhere specific to store it all so it started getting difficult to find things like spare batteries for the head torch and so on, so I finally decided that enough was enough.

I spent Saturday morning at IKEA and managed to find a versatile yet cheap storage combo. As the system is modular I can add to it for next to nothing, thus making more room for more kit*.

This small development now means I have all my various bits of kit organised and easily accessible. I’m surprised how much easier it makes sorting things out. Just knowing how many soups I have left and where my toilet trowel's hiding is a revelation – better late than never I suppose.

*Charl, that was just a silly little joke for the readers and in no way implies that I’ll buy any more kit ever again.**

**Forgive me father for I have sinned…..!

I have the same storage system fitted into a double wardrobe! I'm just worried what happens when a double wardrobe isn't big enough...

Hmmm that's a very good point. Don't tell Charl, but the loft is a bit of Tardis really so I've plenty more room for more Antonuis storage. Just got to find a way of getting it in there without her seeing!

Nice idea. As we've got a trip lined up to Ikea to buy a kitchen I think a modular kit storage option is worth a look.

BTW I use a stack-a-box as a kit packing box. I use one to put the stuff I'm going to take on a trip; checking stuff off as it goes in and out again as it goes in the rucksack. I keep another for rotational items, stuff that I may or may not need.

May be a bit anal but at least I dont leave stuff behind or waste hours hunting for stuff.

Good idea. At the moment its in boxes underneath the bed, but with the upcoming move and the increase in available space such an option might be a good way to keep things in once space. Thanks for sharing.

I so wish I was more organised in many areas of my life! I've gear all over the house and garage - no wonder I can never find anything! Your solution looks great - though it does mean that Charl can see how much kit you actually have, whereas mine is dispersed across the house so my wife can't tell!!
PS. Impressed you have dedicated set off scales too!!
