Bed and Breakfast……

Since the bag is packed way ahead of time, its given me more time to ponder what I’ve packed. Perhaps this is a bad thing but only time will tell.

In the last post I eluded to the faulty filler plug on my Mini Atomic stove and this allowed some doubt to creep in to my mind! I’ve now decided that I will take the Coleman F1 lite instead. There’s not much difference in weight in the overall cooking gear but the convenience factor is where it’s at right now. I’ll send off for another Mini Atomic in due course though to replace this one.

I had decided on my usual porridge start to the day but changing the cook set up means I’d have to clean the titanium mug afterwards and that’s a chore on a short trip. Instead I’ll be taking some oat based cereal bars.

The last substitute is a wee nip of single malt courage, replacing the little flask of port I had hurriedly packed for last Friday when the cupboard was a bit bare!  Bed and breakfast sorted!

Nice one Marcus! I've just been out to gather for the weekend myself but will leave purchase of whisky until tomorrow otherwise I'll feel obliged to give it a try :)

oatmeal bars are a good hassle free approach. But thought about taking a small disposable plastic pot and make-up the porridge in that. Saves soiling the titanium mug, and you get to reuse the pot for mash/pasta etc. Then on the way out you ditch the pot at the 1st rubbish drop.
Best of luck with the trip - it can;tstill be crap weather up there!

Porridge does that. Some once told me that they never washed the pot, bowl or whatever they used and just left the porridge to harden, it's then easier to remove!

personally I use muesli which is easy to clean.

I've already felt obliged to try it......just to check that it was ok to take of course! I've thought about taking the F1 lite and using the pot from the Krazy Kooking Kit ant the ziplock tubs for eating from. It would all work and is easy to clean but I'm not quite sure of the pots suitability with such a hot stove....

John, you know as well as I do, the weather definately can still be bad up there, but its not looking too bad this time.

I somehow had visions of a whisky -based porridge - which would definitely warm you up for the day ahead! I'd still take a couple of packets of Oats-so-simple - if the weathers crap you can't beat a hot breakfast.

Hi Nigel, hope you're keeping well?

I have to say that this is somewhat of a departure for me as I love my porridge on wild camp - whatever the weather. This time though as I'm on a bit of a tight timescale I thought I'd reduce the fuss.

The weather isn't looking to bad at all so bar the odd shower it should be.....satisfactory

I'm well thanks Marcus. Had a bit of a recent scare but had better news today. See post on

Have a great trip!

Ditch the minibull stove and get a titanium caldera cone. A much more efficient system.

I'd like to try a caldera I have to say.

The Mini Atomic is quite a respectable stove when used with a better windscreen. Boil times are generally very good and once you get to know it it can be very efficient. Its a shame the filler screw has come loose but I'd still recommend the stove on its other merits.
